Israel was born in February 15th 1980, in Monterrey, Mexico. After some film workshops in Cuba and New York, he began a young company called Blueberry Films. Since then he's produced, directed and photographed several projects, among music videos, TV- commercials, documentaries and short films.

"Cochochi" is his first feature film, in which he shares script, photography, production and direction credits with his wife Laura Amelia. "Cochochi" had its world premiere in the Venice Film Festival Official Selection (Orizzonti Section). It won the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival, the Grand Jury Award at the Miami and Toulouse Film Festivals and Fipresci Awards at Gijón and Toulouse Film Festivals. "Cochochi" also has been screened at Rotterdam, Habana, Rio de Janeiro, Jeonju, Gotteborg and Buenos Aires films festivals among others.

He is currently working with Laura Amelia on their second feature film "Jean Gentil" to be shot in the Dominican Republic, this project has the support of the Hubert Bals Fund for script and project development and received the production Award of the Locarno Open Doors Factory.

Also he is co-writing with Matías Meyer, the Mexican film "Los Últimos Cristeros" and co-producing the Chilean film "Ocaso" by Théo Court both supported by the Hubert Bals Fund.
